- Bison is SHARP
On October 4, 2013, Bison Pumps had its first open house. It was a great day to tour people through our production facility and celebrate receiving our SHARP banner and plaque from the Maine Department of Labor.
Maine Bureau of Labor Standards Director, Pam Taylor and Steven Greeley, Deputy Director of the Workplace Safety and Health Division presented the banner and flag to the team at Bison Pumps. On hand was Jane Garland, Occupational Health Consultant and Joe Bergan, Occupational Safety Engineer from the SafetyWorks! team. They did the initial walk-through inspection of the facility, provided feedback as to the safety deficiencies, and approved Bison as a SHARP facility upon remediation of safety issues.
SHARP (Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program) is a program of the US Department of Labor administered by the states for small employers. Only 2000 employers are recognized nationally with only 63 in the state of Maine.
In an interview with the Houlton Pioneer Times, President and owner David Harbison stated, “I know I have a quality workforce and each person is vital to our success. It was an obvious decision we protect that investment through our safety and health efforts.”
We are pleased to be an OSHA SHARP employer. Now more than ever, we say safety, quality, quick turn-around and excellent customer service is the Bison way.
