Bison Pumps is in the process of developing a new hand pump. During our research, we found this information and thought we would share!

Water scarcity is something not a lot of people in developed countries experience, but is a serious problem in developing areas of the globe. Just like in economics, water scarcity is when the demand and use of water sources greatly outpaces the supply and rate of replenishment of those sources. Currently, the United Nations estimates about 700 million people in 43 different countries are suffering from water scarcity, and simply cannot get the clean water they need to continue to live a healthy life. Right now Sub-Saharan Africa is the largest area in the world struggling with this global problem. It is estimated that by 2025, 1.8 billion people will be living in areas that are scarce on water, and two thirds of the world’s population will be living in areas defined as “water stressed,” meaning they are slowly inching their way toward scarcity as well.

There are many organizations looking to help bring clean water to areas that need it. One of which is The Water Project. The Water Project brings well drilling to areas that do not have regular access to clean water in countries such as Rwanda, Kenya, Uganda, and Sierra Leone. Many other charitable organizations look to bring clean water to the world as well. The Military Street Church in Houlton, ME recently took a trip down to Caricol, Haiti to the Strong Tower Orphanage, which they support as a Ministry to volunteer and help do some work around the orphanage, and they took one of our Bison hand pumps with them! Now, the orphanage has easy access to clean water right on their property!

If you are interested in helping combat the water scarcity problem many countries are facing as well, a web search will show dozens of organizations dedicated to bringing clean water to the world.
